On January 24, 2024, a meeting of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance was held, at which South Africa Chapter handed over the Chairship of BRICS WBA to Russia Chapter.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Chairperson of BRICS WBA South Africa Chapter Lebogang Zulu made the opening remarks, presenting a report on the results of work for 2023.
After this, Lebogang Zulu officially transferred the mandate of the BRICS WBA Chairship to Anna Nesterova.
Anna Nesterova expressed gratitude to Lebogang Zulu and the South African Team for the work done, noting that a significant contribution had been made to the development of women’s entrepreneurship among the BRICS countries and the African continent.
During the meeting, the Chairperson of Russia Chapter presented the BRICS WBA workplan and the proposed strategy for 2024. Anna Nesterova highlighted the priorities and key directions for cooperation, and also spoke about the WBA events for the year of Russia’s Chairship in BRICS.
The Chairperson of Russia Chapter emphasized that 2024 is especially important not only due to the fact that almost a full cycle of BRICS chairships has passed since the BRICS WBA establishment in 2020, but also because of the great responsibility for including new member countries in the current agenda.
From January 1, 2024, the number of representatives of the Women’s Business Alliance will increase from 25 to 50, due to the accession of five new countries to BRICS, including Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.
The Chairpersons of Brazil, India, China and South Africa Chapters expressed full support for the Chairperson of Russia Chapter and noted the eventful program of the Russian chairship in BRICS WBA.
Following the meeting, Anna Nesterova thanked all representatives of BRICS WBA National Chapters for the support and invited everyone to Russia to participate in the planned events.
