On the 28th of September India held The Greater 50 Virtual Conclave on women empowerment. The leaders of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance participated in the session which was dedicated to the cooperation amongst BRICS nations. The parties discussed current issues and ongoing projects.

Dr. Sangita Reddy, the moderator of the discussion and the Chairperson pro tempore of the WBA, delivered her welcome remarks. She reminded the goals of the WBA and greeted the Chairpersons of National Chapters. Furthermore, she mentioned the progress on the Indian initiative: creating a fund for inexpensive women-led start-ups.

Then she gave the floor to the leaders of the National Chapters of the Alliance. Ms. Grazielle Parenti, the representative of the Brazilian Chapter, elaborated on the theme of women empowerment and how it is important to promote women businesses and leave an enduring legacy.

The topic brought by Ms. Lebogang Zulu, the Chairperson of the South African chapter, was the changing role of the family in the modern world, and its impact on closing the gender gap and women empowerment. In addition, she spoke about working together on a legal framework to promote women rights.

Ms. Anna Nesterova, the Chairperson of the Russian chapter, agreed with Ms.Lebogang Zulu that family should be a source of women empowerment from early childhood and shared her personal experience.

She also underlined in her speech that WBA exists to support women and to promote their business aspirations. There are two important digital projects within WBA, proposed by the Russian side: the Alliance information platform and a Virtual Art Exhibition “Rich traditions of the BRICS countries”, which aimed at enhancing women networking and inspiring women. She strongly encouraged everyone to participate in their development and implementation.

In the end Dr. Sangitta Reddy summed up the conversation, outlining major highlights of the meeting.
