The Gatekeeper project aims to promote social inclusion and equity in access to healthcare, with a particular focus on classes C and D and vulnerable populations. Implemented through a set of integrated actions, the project ensures financial accessibility, the adoption of innovative technologies such as telemedicine and mobile applications, as well as a strategic physical presence through primary care units and mobile health units. These units are set up to be the first point of contact for patients, offering a range of services such as medical appointments, routine examinations, vaccinations and health advice, provided by multidisciplinary teams. Continuity of care is guaranteed through a long-term relationship with the same primary care doctor, providing more personalized care. Educational and awareness programs on disease prevention and healthy habits are also promoted. Strategic partnerships with government entities and NGOs extend the project’s reach and guarantee its financial sustainability. The implementation of technologies such as electronic health records (EHRs ou RES, in Portuguese), remote medical consultations and the use of mobile devices eases access to quality medical services, especially for those in remote areas or with difficulties getting around. In addition, the project includes the promotion of health education and awareness campaigns, empowering individuals with knowledge for the prevention and management of chronic diseases, improving long-term health outcomes. The Gatekeeper project also stands out for its use of public-private partnership models and innovative technologies, positioning itself as a replicable model for other regions and countries with similar socio-economic scenario, even in the BRICS countries. The adoption of innovative practices and the focus on reducing operating costs through efficient resource management contribute to the project’s sustainable growth and potential for scale and expansion.
