Dona do Meu Fluxo (“Owner of My Flow”) is a social initiative implemented by Raízes, in partnership with Korui. Launched in 2017, it distributes cups to menstruating individuals experiencing period poverty. The program empowers them by providing a long-term, sustainable solution for managing their menstrual cycles, and fostering dignity and self-esteem.
Dona do Meu Fluxo combats the social stigma surrounding menstruation by encouraging open discussions and education. The program has a significant environmental impact, as menstrual cups are reusable, eliminating the need for disposable pads which generate substantial plastic waste, thus far preventing approximately 22.5 tons of plastic waste (based on the estimated use of disposable pads – around 5kg per person annually – and the number of women served by the project in its several iterations, e.g. approximately 4,500).
Dona do Meu Fluxo’s mission extends beyond product distribution. The initiative conducts workshops in remote Amazonian areas through a voluntourism model, promoting menstrual health awareness and positive self-care practices among participants.
