Food Security and Agriculture for China

This project is being implemented in Pakistan, a country located along the “Belt and Road” initiative. As the sixth most populous country in the world, Pakistan has a high demand for edible oil and a low self-sufficiency rate, leading to significant annual import needs and a burden on foreign exchange reserves. Meanwhile, the increasing import and long-term eating of cheap and low-quality edible oil has led to cardiovascular diseases, placing pressure on the healthcare system. The Pakistani government has recognized the severity of the problem and urgently requires high-quality rapeseed varieties to address this problem. Wuhan Qingfa-Hesheng Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. has collaborated with Pakistan’s agricultural company CERTUS SEEDS to utilize twenty years of research and development experience in collecting local high-quality seed resources and conducting hybrid double-low rapeseed variety, culminating in the cultivation of the high-yielding and high-quality HC-021C variety. This variety effectively improves the yield and quality of rapeseed, enhances the health level of edible oil, and aids Pakistan in achieving self-sufficiency while alleviating foreign exchange pressure. Moving forward, both China and Pakistan will refine the promotion of the mechanized planting and industrial chain technology solutions of the double-low rapeseed variety, disseminating the concept of “double low hybrid rapeseed” through training sessions to provide a solution to Pakistan’s shortage of edible oil and the health issues associated with inferior oil. This project will implement the “Belt and Road” strategy, further deepening the friendly relations between the two countries and enhancing China’s international influence and competitiveness in the seed industry.
