Goal: to provide every village in the country with a trained female community health activist ASHA or Accredited Social Health Activist. Selected from the village itself and accountable to it, the ASHA will be trained to work as an interface between the community and the public health system.
Brief description: ASHAs are women trained to act as health educators and health promoters in their communities. Their tasks include:
• Health education: ASHAs educate communities on health, birth preparedness, breastfeeding, and immunization.
• Access to services: ASHAs facilitate access to immunizations, prenatal/postnatal check-ups, and nutrition.
• Health promotion: ASHAs promote healthy behaviors and mobilize communities for better health.
• Disease surveillance: ASHAs identify cases of diseases like tuberculosis and COVID-19.
• Data collection: ASHAs collect data for informed healthcare planning.
• First aid: ASHAs provide basic first aid for illnesses and injuries.

• Supply depot: ASHAs distribute essential supplies like ORS, IFA tablets, and condoms.
• Sanitation: ASHAs work to improve sanitation in villages.
• Demographic records: ASHAs maintain demographic records.
