Goal: to provide dedicated health care facilities to the senior citizens (>60 year of age) at various level of primary, secondary and tertiary health care.
Brief description: The scheme includes the below strategies:
• Preventive care: Health workers provide education on exercise, diet, stress management, and tobacco avoidance through home visits and weekly clinics at PHCs for the elderly.
• Illness management: Chronic disease services are developed at PHCs, CHCs, and Geriatric Centres with central support.
• Health manpower: Training for medical staff in geriatric care is provided, and postgraduate courses are introduced at Geriatric Centres.
• Rehabilitation: Therapeutic exercises and physiotherapy are offered at CHCs, district hospitals, and Geriatric Centres with necessary infrastructure.Education: Mass media and check-up camps promote healthy aging, physical activity, and stress reduction.
