A new project aimed at adapting Russian orthopedic technologies for the South African market has been successfully launched as part of the cooperation among members of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance.
Within the activities of the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance (WBA), Russian–South African cooperation continues its successful development, focusing on the implementation of socially significant initiatives. Key figures driving this project are Galina Volkova, Head of the Working Group on Inclusive Economy of the Russian Chapter of the BRICS WBA, and Princess Lebogang Zulu, Chairperson of BRICS WBA South African Chapter.
A significant moment that marked the beginning of this collaboration was Lebogang Zulu’s visit to the digital factory of “Ortomoda” at Technopolis “Moscow” last year during the BRICS Women’s Entrepreneurship Forum. During the meeting the South African side particularly noted high quality and value of the orthopedic footwear, as well as the potential of the remote individual ordering technology. This visit demonstrated the feasibility of implementing a similar project in South Africa and other countries on the African continent.
Earlier this year, during the II BRICS Women’s Entrepreneurship Forum, a parliamentary delegation and potential South African partners arrived in Moscow for constructive negotiations. Concrete proposals for the project’s implementation were developed after the sides conducted a comprehensive market analysis in South Africa. The first practical step was the production of a pilot batch of customized orthopedic footwear for future partners, which received high evaluation for its ergonomic and aesthetic qualities.
A key milestone will be the official presentation of the joint project in the Republic of South Africa, scheduled for November this year. This initiative is part of a broader BRICS effort to develop socially oriented projects. The comprehensive program includes the following components:
• Training of local specialists;
• Opening of salons and, in the future, manufacturing facilities;
• Reception of individual orders for orthopedic footwear (both complex and preventive types);
• Production and sale of finished products;
• Public awareness campaigns on the importance of preventing diseases such as diabetes.
“This project is a bright example of how partnership within the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance contributes not only to business development but also to addressing critical social issues, improving people’s life quality, and fostering an inclusive economy for the future of the African continent,” — marked Galina Volkova.
“It is extremely important for us to implement Russian technologies and experience in the social sphere. This project meets the urgent needs of our communities, creating new opportunities for women and improving public health,” — emphasized Lebogang Zulu.
The implementation of this project demonstrates the practical results of dialogue within BRICS and opens new horizons for expanding multilateral cooperation in the field of inclusive development.
