The Republic of Belarus has completed the official procedure for obtaining the status of a BRICS partner country, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus reported on November 11, 2024
“On November 5, 2024, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a letter addressed to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the country’s readiness to join the BRICS as a partner,” the message says.
The document was handed over by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Maxim Ryzhenkov to the Russian Ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov during a personal meeting.
As specified, the status of the partner country implies participation on a regular basis in special sessions of the BRICS summits and the meetings of BRICS foreign ministers. It is also possible to invite partners to other ministerial-level events, in particular, on the subject of trade, meetings of representatives on national security and a forum of parliamentarians. Partners can join the final BRICS documents.
