BRICS WBA Working Group on Healthcare Meeting Takes Place
On April 12, 2024, the BRICS Women's Business Alliance Working Group on Healthcare meeting was held in an online format. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Working Groups on Healthcare of the Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa Chapters, alongside BRICS WBA Global Chairperson, Anna Nesterova.

The meeting was opened and moderated by Liudmila Shcherbakova, President of Velpharm Group, Head of the BRICS WBA Russia Chapter Working Group on Healthcare. As part of her welcoming speech, Liudmila Shcherbakova emphasized that the BRICS countries have great potential, and they need to join forces in order to make life around them better and help the citizens of the countries.

The participants of the meeting noted the importance of the topic of the presentation of Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine" of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chief specialist in therapy and general medical practice of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Oksana Drapkina, on the economics of prevention and improvements of public health. "Public health is the most valuable economic resource. Lack of investment in health and prevention leads to significant irreversible losses of the working population and workforce and economic losses," said Oksana Drapkina.

Deliberations focused on collaborative efforts in healthcare, encompassing disease prevention, primary healthcare, leveraging AI and ML for early disease detection and diagnosis, Digital Health Public Goods, telemedicine, traditional medicine, as well as mental health and wellbeing. Moreover, shared challenges among BRICS member countries were identified, underscoring the imperative for cooperation to mitigate common threats.

Particular attention was dedicated to the healthcare disparities in rural areas, where access to advanced medical technologies is limited. Participants advocated for a harmonization of traditional and innovative medicine by combining the best practices of both approaches.

National representatives put forward proposals for diverse projects aimed at enhancing the quality of healthcare services for women.

The Indian Chapter presented the project "Empowering Her Health", emphasizing the need for a paradigm shift in prioritizing women's health, urging women to make preventive healthcare a priority, as well as the BRICS Consultation on Women's Health (Virtual Mode) to share successful interventions, policies and programs that have effectively addressed women's health issues in various regions.

The South African Chapter proposed to establish an online platform with engaging medical visual animation to share experience, projects and programs.

After concluding the meeting, Liudmila Shcherbakova warmly invited the participants to join the BRICS Women's Entrepreneurship Forum, scheduled to take place in Moscow on June 2-4, 2024.
