First BRICS WBA Meeting in 2023: Chinese Chapter Hands Over Chairship to South African Chapter
On February, 6, 2023, the Handover by the Chinese Chapter and the 1st Meeting of BRICS WBA under the South Africa's Chairship took place.

Ms. Zhao Haiying, the Chairperson of the Chinese Chapter, opened the meeting with welcoming remarks. Ms. Haiying presented the achievements of the Alliance reached in 2022. During its Chairship, the Chinese Chapter held a series of the events, in particular, the 2nd BRICS Women Innovation Contest, the 1st BRICS Women's Leadership Forum and released the 1st BRICS Women's Development Report 2022. Ms. Haiying also pointed out the events hosted by other National Chapters, including a special WBA session during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), a women's Digital Literacy and Digital Financial Literacy training program, Jonga Women's Trade Expo, creation of the National Forum for Women Entrepreneurs and other.

The National Chapters' leaders of Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa thanked Ms. Zhao Haiying for all the provided activities under the Chinese Chairship in 2022.

After that, the floor was passed to the Russian side, Ms. Elena Chashchina, the Head of the Russian Chapter's Working Group on Creative Industries and Tourism. Ms. Chashchina presented the Russian initiatives, in particular, the common BRICS Women's Business Alliance platform, the establishment within the BRICS WBA expert dialogue on ESG-agenda and energy security, the BRICS White Paper on the Care economy and proposals on the development of tourism and transport security.

Then Ms. Zhao Haiying officially handed over the Chairship to Ms. Lebogang Zulu, the Chairperson of the South African Chapter.

Ms. Zulu presented a detailed strategy and work plan of WBA for 2023, including new initiatives such as the BRICS-Africa WBA Trade Conference, new working groups, the first BRICS Organic Farming Association meeting and presentation of the AGROWEX Platform.

Following the Handover meeting, all the members of the Alliance congratulated Ms. Lebogang Zulu and the South African Chapter on the Chairship in 2023 and emphasized that all the initiatives will have a positive impact on women's empowerment and enlarge their opportunities. The leaders of the National Chapters expressed their hope for another year of productive work towards the common goals of the Alliance.
